Title: In which Changmin is grumpy and Yunho has his fingers chewed on

A/N: So, um, this is completely pointless and silly? Also, unfinished - probably forever going to stay so. (Unless
isaofdoom decides she wants to write it properly like she said she might. :>) I've just been wanting to write something that wouldn't be awfully angsty, something light and carefree and at last, I succeeded~! I don't really have time to continue it so if you could treat it like a bit longer drabble...?
Also, dedicated to
isaofdoom~! As I promised I would do if I managed not to give birth to another angst-ridden fic.
Yunho's busy trying to detach his hand from where it's caught between a mischievous puppy's canines (it always does that to him and him only, for some reason, and damn if these little pointed teeth aren't sharp), when he comes for the first time. The shop coming alive with various sounds of animals like always signals a client's entrance and when Yunho lifts his head, his eyes are greeted with a truly exquisite sight. The newcomer is gorgeous - tall, slim, fashionably dressed, with big doe eyes, perfectly sculpted high cheekbones and wide sensual mouth - for a moment Yunho just stands here gaping while the puppy continues chewing vigorously on his fingers.
Finally, he manages to tear away his gaze from where it's still zoomed at the man's lips - and his abused hand from the dog's grasp - to perform his duties.
"Welcome, can I help you with something?" he inquires with his trademark smile, even brighter than normally because woah
.
The guy doesn't even bother to answer him, instead opting for a curt shake of his head.
A bit nonplused but not deterred Yunho remarks, "please don't hesitate to call me for help if any need arises later, though". Maybe the guy's here just to look - they have a lot people like this here as pet shops tend to do. Granted, normally window shoppers here are female - mostly still at school; they stop dead in their tracks to coo at adorable animals with their eyes wide and involuntary smiles at their faces.
The man starts wandering all over the shop, halting every now and then to linger at this or that cage but eventually moving on. Yunho gets back to his work though he continues stealing little glances at the client. When a half an hour passes and the man's still there, just looking, Yunho decides to try his luck one more time. His - two months long but hey, everyone has to start from something - experience telling him that if someone's stayed at the shop for longer than 20 minutes and they didn't stare at a specific animal either, they're interested in a purchase after all, he leaves his place behind the counter and joins the man standing in front of a huge cage with puppies.
"Maybe I can help you after all?" he inquires with a pleasant quirk to his lips.
The guy startles and then gives him a long considering look.
"...maybe," is the quipped reply. His eyes don't leave Yunho's face and while normally Yunho doesn't mind the stares (he gets his share, being young and, well, not bad at all if he can say so himself) he squirms a little and smiles even brighter to cover it up.
"So, are you searching for anything specific?"
"A pet," the guy deadpans and at last tears his gaze away from Yunho to turn it at the puppies again. Well, this much Yunho could've guessed by himself, this being a pet shop and all but he chooses not to comment, lest he somehow ruffles the client's feathers. He looks like the type, though he can't quite pinpoint what makes him think so.
"Then, how about a dog? These puppies are all cute and healthy," he offers.
The man seems to consider it for a moment and then, "puppies are too fluffy."
Yunho gapes.
The guy turns on his heels, murmurs a quick "thanks for your assistance," nods curtly and before Yunho can think to bow, he's already outside.
After that, the man keeps coming to the pet shop. His visits are always very irregular but they're all pretty similar. He makes a round of the whole place and while he doesn't reject Yunho's assistance anymore, he always shoots down his suggestions. He also always comes when it's Yunho's shift. (He asked his female coworkers if no one fitting the guy's description ever came but he learnt that - to their chagrin - they've never seen anyone similar come.)
Cats are too selfish. Turtles are too unresponsive (his hyung has one and it sucks). Hamsters are too small and annoying. Rats, just no. Fish are not his thing. Changmin, as Yunho finally learnt one time after he, well, simply asked, Changmin finds faults in everything.
Yunho's almost tempted to tell him they can get a tank of piranhas for him - he's an easygoing guy but even he has his limits - but he resists. If he has to be honest with himself, Changmin intrigues him. At this point it’s even past initial physical attraction - Yunho's genuinely curious. It doesn't help either that with each visit Changmin opens up just a tad. His replies are still rather short but they're not as clipped and offhand anymore. He even smiled at Yunho briefly several times and, as much as it sounded like a thing out of a cheap romance novel, Yunho swears his heart might've just skipped a beat.
It becomes sort of a challenge for him - what to do, what to say to keep Changmin here for five minutes longer, to win a sincere smile or even a laugh.
Changmin's visits at the pet shop have somehow become a thing to look forward too. Yunho always fights not to look too dejected when the rush at the shop is too big and he can't afford to take some time out of his duties to converse with Changmin a bit. (He tries not to get his hopes high but each time it happens, he thinks Changmin seems just a bit disappointed as well.)
On one such a day when there are lots of clients that actually want to buy something, Yunho notices Changmin standing in front of puppies again. His face looks a bit wistful and then for a briefest of moments it alights with some kind of resolution. Yunho's packing a client's order and he watches on, fascinated as Changmin crouches down and his hand darts forward to scratch a tiny fluffy ball of a Maltese behind its ears. The puppy sticks out its tongue happily and when Changmin's about to retreat his hand (and probably dash out of the shop), it licks at his fingers.
Was it really that easy? Yunho wonders before his attention's averted to the matter at hand. When he's finally free to make another furtive glance in the puppies'-- Changmin's direction, the man's already gone.
As always comments much appreciated :)

Date: 2012-04-22 07:31 pm (UTC)Changmin likes to be aloof huh? I see.
Somehow I feel like Changmin just visits the petshop because of Yunho rather than for a pet... But I guess that's just my inner fangirl speaking, or not ^^.
But really though, what kind of excuse is "puppies are too fluffy"?
Lol anyway, I have to say, petshops and HoMin are adorable♥. I would love to read more -puppy dog eyes-
Thanks for sharing^^

Date: 2012-04-22 07:41 pm (UTC)No, no, no, it's only for a pet. ...Or so would Changmin like everyone, himself included, to believe but I'm pretty sure we all know better?
Most probably I won't be writing more of this :< It was just an exercise of sorts to see if I'm capable of writing light, happy things. XD
Thanks for reading and commenting :)

Let me slap you, Changmin. Hamsters are awesome. I have five, three of which are named after Super Junior members. The most annoying is Siwon XD
Thank you for this cute fluff!

Date: 2012-04-23 08:01 pm (UTC)Woah, 5 hamsters?! I've only ever had a dog. What other Super Junior names did you give them tho? If you don't mind telling. XD
Thank you for this nice comment ♥

Date: 2012-04-23 08:37 pm (UTC)The most hamsters I've had at one time was 8! Hamster!Siwon when he was a baby and this is Ryeowook and Sungmin. Ryeowook is the orange one at the front. Next time we have a hamster vacancy I'm having HoMin hamsters LOL

Date: 2012-04-23 08:50 pm (UTC)8! Weren't they awfully loud, though? Neighbours have had lots of degus once (bought two but they didn't mind incest so um) and they made quite a noise - we used to hear them all the time while they played in their cage.
Ryeowook and Sungmin! Flawless taste :> Hamster vacancy, tho. XD The sound of it~ But you do that - it'd be awesome if they happened to be similar - Yunho making mess all the time, Changmin being a bit of a reckluse and all :>

Date: 2012-04-23 09:40 pm (UTC)The hamsters can be loud when they all run in their wheel at the same time at 3am *__* especially Siwon since his wheel is very squeaky no matter what I do to it.
LOL yes every time I get a pair of little hamsters, there's always one that eats all the food and the other just scrats around and rolls and climbs, so clearly it would be easy to identify Changmin and Yunho!

Date: 2012-04-23 09:59 pm (UTC)They did the same thing, lol. And there were truly lots of them - a dozen or something? - and it seems they were more nocturnal than not, so imagine them taking turns on the wheel all night long. (But I know it mostly from stories~ Since fortunately my room's on the other end of home.) But lol, Siwon. As expected of him to be impossible not to notice.
Tough brand of love! Sounds like someone's specialty. Let's hope Changmin won't starve Yunho to death :

Date: 2012-05-02 11:07 pm (UTC)I've had a Dobbermann for 6 (soon 7) years and he has lived in this tiny apartment with me, my 5 siblings (two have moved out) and my mom since he was 12 months old xD
Just allow it to lay on the furniture and it won't take up much space at all~

Date: 2012-05-02 11:13 pm (UTC)The lying on the furniture bit XDD (...Not that we didn't let ours lie on the furniture... But as a rule :<)

Date: 2012-05-03 06:28 am (UTC)Ahahahaha, Dobbermenn are ultra stubborn, let them up once and they'll use whatever method to get up again OTL. Clingy too, he's always stepping on my heels and taught himself to open doors to follow me around eue;;

Date: 2012-04-23 12:36 pm (UTC)obviously the pet he's eyeing is Yunho LOL
It's a really interesting story

Date: 2012-04-23 12:57 pm (UTC)Changmin not really saying a lot unlike his snarky self... we need to have more of Homin in the pet shop... PLEASE!!

Date: 2012-04-23 08:19 pm (UTC)And that's an interesting point that you've made here? Idk, I guess here I brought out more of his shy side? Somehow, I don't think he'd be too talkative - snark or not - with people he didn't know. Especially if there was a crush involved.
But I won't be continuing it, sorry :< No time and no useful ideas either. I'm glad you enjoyed it, though. Thanks for the comment! :)
